Thinking things afresh at the Think Summit, Paris

On Tuesday 8th October, Paris played host to IBM’s Think Summit, a major event dedicated to delivering inspiration, technical know how, and new experiences for the most innovative of thinkers.

Granting its many attendees the exciting opportunity to explore and even participate in the operation of the very latest cloud and AI technologies, it offered a combination of keynote presentations, client cases, and activations, along with the opportunity to network with peers and business leaders.

Demonstrations revolving around Quantum Computers received particular interest from everyone there, as did the numerous discussions on the implications of an increasing adoption of the hybrid cloud.

Cyber security was also a top issue, of course, one of the key messages being that every organisation now needs a resilient plan to deal with an attack, including the integration of Managed Security Services – otherwise the question to be asked is when will you be attacked, not if.

Augmented Artificial intelligence was similarly a heavily debated theme, as the technology becomes increasingly pervasive throughout all areas of the market.

The very best subject matter experts were also on hand to take part in informative discussions in one of many campus areas, spaces specially set aside to host a variety of topic-tailored activities including sessions, networking events, expert talks, demonstrations, immersive experiences, education, entertainment, and refreshments.

Here it was possible to find out more on specific issues, focusing on the subjects you care most about, while surrounded by people who understand your enterprise challenges and goals.

For instance, the Cloud & Infrastructure Campus dealt with a faster optimisation of infrastructures utilising smarter platforms and services.

Other campuses emphasised Security & Resiliency, Smarter Business, and Data & AI

5 take-aways from IBM Think 2019

Celerity, Craig Aston

Hybrid cloud is going to be king for a number of years in the enterprise space

Hybrid cloud was a running theme through IBM Think 2019, all flowing from stats such as “over 80% of data for enterprises still resides behind corporate firewalls”, which shows that although public cloud has become important and prevalent in the marketplace, most medium and larger organisations will have a combination of on-premise and a number of public cloud providers.

What does this mean; it means that legacy skills remain very important, and that on-premise solutions remain very relevant, but that offerings from the channel have to ensure that they support this Hybrid cloud proposition. For Celerity this supports the move we have made into offerings being “as a service”, which can be delivered on-premise, through the public cloud, or in most cases in a Hybrid Cloud.

Security in this Hybrid Cloud world is going to be the challenge of the next decade.
